It seems like only yesterday we were raving about the new all-electric Lightning GT supercar concept vehicle. Now, nearly two years and numerous development stages later, a sexy prototype is hitting the test tracks -- and boy is it fast! Translogic, the American rivals to the British car television sensation Top Gear, were the first to take the James Bond-esque coupe out for a spin, putting its innovative green features to the test. NYC-sized iceberg set to break off Antarctic glacier

With a gargantuan crack slowly splitting it apart, Antarctica‘s fastest-melting glacier is about to lose a chunk of ice larger than all of New York City, scientists say.

The crevasse stretches 19 miles (30 kilometers) long and up to 260 feet (80 meters) wide, as shown in a picture taken by NASA’s Terra satellite in Octoberand featured this week as a NASA Image of the Day.

Snaking across the floating tongue of the Pine Island Glacier in West Antarctica, the crack is expected to create an iceberg 350 square miles (907 square kilometers)—versus 303 square miles (785 square kilometers) for Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and the Bronx combined, according to NASA.

As for when the iceberg might shove off, “that is very difficult to predict,” said oceanographer Eric Rignot of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, “but in the coming months for sure.”

Worlds smallest frog

A tiny frog recently discovered in the forests of Papua New Guinea has been decreed the smallest of the known 60,000 species of vertebrates (the group that includes mammals, fish, amphibians and birds). The tiny creature is around 7mm long (half the size of a Smartie) and lives well camouflaged among leaf litter – which could explain why it remained unnoticed for so long.

It was its high-pitched call, more like an insect’s than a frog’s, that first attracted the US team’s attention. “The New Guinea forests are incredibly loud at night. We were trying to record frog calls, and we were curious as to what these other sounds were,” said Chris Austin of Louisiana State University, who led the research. “So we triangulated to where these calls were coming from, and looked through the leaf litter.” But in the dark it was almost impossible to see anything – so the researchers simply grabbed a handful of litter and popped it into a clear plastic bag. It was only then that they saw a load of “incredibly tiny frogs hopping about”, Austin told BBC News online.

Maybe the black London Cabs should do they same, but I am not to sure how long they would last before they would need recharging. However if more taxi's were electric then many city centre's would be less polluted.

Accumulating 'microplastic' threat to shores

Microscopic plastic debris from washing clothes is accumulating in the marine environment and could be entering the food chain, a study has warned.

Researchers traced the "microplastic" back to synthetic clothes, which released up to 1,900 tiny fibres per garment every time they were washed.

Earlier research showed plastic smaller than 1mm were being eaten by animals and getting into the food chain.

The findings appeared in the journal Environmental Science and Technology.

Poster - In Eco We Trust

A poster meant to be a satire to the widely spreading trend encouraging all kinds of practices for protecting the environment, as Robo Design call it: the eco hype, backed up by commercial speculations on the emerging markets. Robo Design personally believe that environmental protection should be a primary concern to each individual, corporation or any given entity.

While Robo Design certainly like that ecological products are promoted, they rather doubt the intentions behind all these marketing strategies. In the end, it's all about selling yet another line of new products. Those who contributed the most to the global warming and various environmental issues are today becoming the prominent supporters of environmental protection campaigns. Kids learn from them a wide variety of "best practices" for living a "greener life".

So, the question is: are you Eco?

Chevy adds sustainability label

Chevrolet will be adding an eco-label to new vehicles that tells shoppers more about the environmental impact of the entire manufacturing process and various auto components, the company had announced.

Look out for pacific trash vortex

The crew of the Gaualofa traditional canoe were sent off by Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Maliegaoi, of Samoa, with the message to look out for the Great Pacific Garbage Patch

Also known as the Pacific Trash Vortex, the Patch refers to a body of trash that floats near the Equator stretching for thousands of miles.

The Prime Minister asked Gaualofa captain Tuatagaloa Joe Annandale if he had come across the Vortex in his many ocean travels and he said he did.

“The Patch – I’ve read – is where all the rubbish, especially plastics, from the Pacific end up,” said Prime Minister Tuilaepa.

This recycle bin was spotted on the high street in Guildford, Surrey. It looked like that it could of done with some tender loving cleaning care. I liked the sign above the recycling bin stating that an Eric Parker described Guildford as a beautiful city.
