Hybrid cars - yes or no!

Hybrid cars are becoming more popular and not just will celebs. There are many arguments for and against.

What ever the outcome of the argument it is still a step in the right direction. What do you think!

My current family car was getting to the end of its usability so my wife and decided to exchange it for a replacement. However as the owner of www.MoreEco.com I had to make my choice very careful.

As a family of five (three boys) there is very little choice of what eco / electric cars you can buy which provides you with comfort, space and safety. Fortunately in my local town, Cheltenham, we have a Lexus dealership, therefore we could look at the Lexus RX400 Hybrid. There was no other choice.

All I can say that I was very surprised on how well the car drove. It was a very strange feeling starting the Lexus and not hearing and engine noise. It was silent. When placed in Drive the Lexus just leisurely drove off. I here of some stories of people leaving there keys in the car, at home, forgetting that it is still (silent) running, and the batteries being depleted the next day, but I suppose it just another bad habit you have to change.

The LCD screen on the dashboard informs you if the car is using its petrol or its electric motor (which has two off - front and back) or both for driving. The positive things is that it encourages you to change your driving habits. No more heavy footed driving, but more light footed, casual driving. I am still teaching my wife how to do this.

When purchasing the car I was very aware that there are arguments for and against these types of cars due to their manufacturing process. However I strongly believe that what we are doing as a family is a step in the right direction for us, the environment, the message we want to share and support of the hybrid car market.
