Old televisions and computers containing hazardous substances are still being exported from Europe despite a ban aimed at stopping the trade, which poisons workers at makeshift recycling plants in Africa and Asia.

Critically Endangered Archey's Frog

The critically endangered Archey's frog from New Zealand represents one of the world's oldest amphibian lineages. Conservationists are concerned by a proposal to open some its remaining habitat for mining. A letter sent to the New Zealand government warns this could wipe the species out completely.

Deodorant used to sweeten foul smells at Beijing dumps

Beijing is taking aim at its smelly rubbish tips - by using water cannons to fire smell-busting liquid on its worst-offending landfill sites.The arrival of warmer weather in the Chinese capital has caused more garbage to rot, leading to a nasty stench in various parts of the city.

Landfills can creat plenty of pullition. As a society we need to make sure that we use less packaging, recycle more and use home composting.
